I always thought the "A list" was comprised of those household names who the average person walking down the street would recognize.

Being perched on any and every red carpet or having a lot of social media followers isn't the only way to gauge someone's fame because a lot of those people ain't shit outside a TMZ article. Kinda like Selena having the most IG followers and selling the same amount as Tinashe.
