I think that's what It might be. I have family and friends that are black and are from both ends of the color spectrum

light, brown, dark, whatever we wanna call it.
if you're African American you're gonna see more than one color in ur family.
But it goes further than skin tone with race. I thought it was just about skin tone too but people point out other things like bone structure, etc. Undertones to the skin. Things I never thought about before.
Beyonce is a light skinned Black woman to me, first time I saw her on DC covers I never questioned that.

But with race in general it goes a little further.
